Product description
Quite extraordinary pruners from Tobisho, hand-forged to order. The Hiryu differs from all other secateurs with its thinner blade, slightly hollow-ground on the inside, and a slight gap between blade and bypass - creating a finer and cleaner cutting action, which along with the double spring system allows for prolonged use. There’s a nifty reservoir of grease contained within the self tightening bolt system to self-lubricate from the inside. Popular in Japan for winter apple tree pruning, where the double spring softens the impact of repeated cuts. Leather catch at the bottom.
The double spring and soft action is great for repeated use in orchards and large gardens.
New version, now made with Yasuki YCS-3 steel, not Blue Paper steel as Jake mentions in the video.
Best usage
- Clean with a Niwaki Clean Mate rust and sap eraser
- Sharpen with a Niwaki #1000 grit stone
- Protect with Niwaki Camellia Oil
