Product description
Narrow headed hoe for breaking ground and cultivating - half way between a mattock and the flattened end of a pickaxe. What a whopper - perfect for attacking your new allotment, especially if you have heavy soil. Not for prizing out lumps of concrete.
Best usage
The Niwaki Narrow Hoe arrives from Japan with a sharp and effective but not overly refined edge. If, over time, you find it’s not performing as well as it used to or you notice a dink in the edge, use a Niwaki Twin Diamond File to restore it to its former glory. Start with the rougher side of the file (#120 grit) then move to the smoother face (#300 grit).
Inspect the hoe and aim to match the existing angle of the blade (c.20 degrees should do it, but consistency is more important than precision here). It’s a double-edged blade, but one side is noticeably more sharpened than the other. Concentrate on this top edge and restrict your efforts on the steeper underside to a just few passes with the file to remove the burr.
